Bio
Mia’s earliest memory of making was at age three, cutting up and repurposing her own clothing, taping marbles onto string to make necklaces, and painting whenever she could. Creating has always been essential to her. She began painting in oils on canvas with her grandmother at age nine, continued through school and classes at local community centers, and later studied art in college.
Mia grew up in the Bay Area and has lived and studied in Portland, Manhattan, and abroad in East Africa. She received grants to return to the region to complete a body of photographic work begun there. She has exhibited widely, published, and received recognition for her work.
She now lives in the Washington, DC area with her two children and their Newfoundland dog, Gus.
